The Client
DiverseCity Voices is new a program run by the Maytree Foundation. The mandate is to enrich the content of our newspapers, magazines, radio and television by including more visible minorities and immigrants in mainstream media. The method for accomplishing this goal was to create an online database of qualified spokespeople for journalists to use as a resource when researching news stories. The DiverseCity website application is the primary tools allowing the program to run .
The Process
We worked closely for the Maytree Foundation to help iron out exactly what information would be most useful for a journalist researching a story. Starting from the needs of the journalists we create the application to allow them to search by skill set, cultural background, area of expertise, and previous citations in the media.
Maytree actively encourages candidates to apply to their program and to fill in an online profile. They coach the candidates on how to prepare their profiles in the system, and manually audit the information for accuracy. This creates a list of highly qualified individuals that are searchable by journalists using the application.
Project Features:
- Candidate pool is searchable by skill breakdown or organic text searches
- System tracks and reports on the success of the program
