Here's a basic list of the web-safe fonts available. You are able to use them because most windows and mac based computers come with these fonts installed on them by default.

- Arial Black: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Comic Sans MS: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Courier New: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Georgia: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Impact: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Lucida Console: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Lucida Sans Unicode: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Palatino Linotype: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Tahoma: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Times New Roman: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Trebuchet MS: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
- Verdana: Lorum Ipsum Delorum
Why can't use Helvatica Neue as the body text in my site?
A person viewing a website needs to have that font installed on their computer to view it. (Makes sense right?) You will definitely have many more fonts installed on the computer then the list above. If you design a HTML/CSS site that requires body text in Helvatica Neue, and look at it on your computer it looks awsome. When you try it out on your mom's computer - you get a nasty surprise. You mom's web browser tries to guess at what the closest font is and crams it in there. At best it will make it Arial, which is a poor rip off of helvatica, (rumour has it microsoft created it, so they wouldn't need to pay licensing fees).
The point is that don't leave any design choices to the browser - They suck at it! Yes the fonts are going to look smoother and fuzzier on a mac, firefox is a bit jaggie, but at least they won't totally change!
Give me a break - There must be some other options!
All standard web broswers (Internet explorer 6,7,8, Fire Fox, Safari, Opera, and Chrome) all require the user's computer to have the font installed to be able to view them on the website.
Unless you're running all-flash website (and we generally suggest against this as you're going to kill your perfomance in Google) There's really not much option but to stick with the list above.
